William Evans (from Purdey's) Hammergun, 20 Ga, 28" Barrels
Crafted in the United Kingdom in 1886, this classic William Evans side-by-side shotgun carries the esteemed lineage of a maker originally from James Purdey & Sons. Designed as a traditional 20-gauge, it features a historic rotary underlever action and double triggers, representing late nineteenth-century craftsmanship for the versatile upland sportsman.
The twenty-eight-inch Damascus barrels and straight English walnut stock display light marks consistent with age and field use, maintaining the dignified character of a well-traveled antique. While there is a handling dent on the right side of the stock and a visible crack, the fore-end locks in tightly and the bores remain in good condition.
Chambered for 2 ½-inch shells with fixed cylinder chokes in both barrels, this pre-1899 firearm operates with traditional extractors and a manual safety. Mechanically, the shotgun functions beautifully on snap caps, locking up tight with non-rebounding locks that work firmly and deliberately.
